📚 N1 Course – Mondays 18:00 - 19:00 JST
Rick Akagi
At Nihongo Picnic, Rick teaches not only JLPT classes, but also advanced and high-advanced courses. He is a dedicated researcher who also studies Second Language Acquisition. The N1 class involves plenty of homework and study time, but Rick’s lessons are engaging, and the class atmosphere encourages everyone to give their best.
Message from Rick-sensei: “In class, we work with past exam questions and practice books, analyzing trends and question patterns. I’ll share tips for tackling the most challenging N1 reading problems. My lessons go beyond explanations, you’ll also discover the richness and depth of the Japanese language.”
📚 N2 Course – Mondays 19:00 - 20:00 JST
Kumiko Ikeda
Kumiko teaches a wide range of classes at Nihongo Picnic, from beginner to high-intermediate. She is one of our core teachers, known for her clear explanations and excellent feedback in both private and group lessons. Her careful, individualized support is highly appreciated by her students.
Message from Kumiko-sensei: “In three months, I’ll help you strengthen your skills and aim for N2 success! In class, I focus on creating a safe environment where you can ask questions freely, and I explain everything thoroughly until you’re satisfied. We’ll work on grammar, vocabulary, reading, and listening in balance, and use practice exercises to build real test-taking ability. It may be challenging, but I’ll support each of you fully toward your goals.”
📚 N3 Course – Tuesdays 11:00 AM - 12:00 JST
Akane Katano
Akane teaches both private and group lessons, from beginner to high-intermediate, and has extensive JLPT teaching experience at Nihongo Picnic and elsewhere. One of her beginner group lessons, which started when Nihongo Picnic was founded, is still going strong with the same members now at the intermediate level, a sign of how much her students value her. She’s a reliable teacher who prioritizes strong communication with her learners.
Message from Akane-sensei: “In this course, we’ll cover not only how to solve questions, but also how to use vocabulary and grammar naturally. Of course, our goal is to pass, but if you pass using only test-taking tricks and without truly improving your skills, you’re really missing out. Through exam preparation, I want to help you genuinely level up your Japanese and enjoy learning even more. I’ll be with you every step of the way.”
📚 N3 Course – Wednesdays 20:00 - 21:00 / Thursdays 9:00 - 10:00 AM JST
Masako Takao
Masako teaches everything from beginner to advanced classes at Nihongo Picnic, with a wealth of JLPT teaching experience. She’s committed to achieving results and supporting students until the very end. Many students continue with her private lessons even after completing JLPT courses, a testament to her lasting impact as a teacher.
