Would You Buy Sanrio or Nintendo Stock? Let’s Talk in Japanese!
Sep 5, 2025
At Nihongo Picnic, we create original teaching material for pre-intermediate and above lessons. (Some classes still use published textbooks. If you’d like details about the materials used in a specific class, please feel free to ask us!)
Today, we’d like to share a little about how we choose our material topics. And as a gift, we’re sharing one of our most recent articles: “Sanrio and Nintendo Shareholders’ Meetings.”
Our Approach to Creating Materials
Our lesson articles are written by our teachers and refined through multiple rounds of feedback. At least two teachers are involved from the initial idea to the final draft, checking for:
Relevance and interest
Clarity and difficulty level
Accuracy and quality of content
To maintain consistency, we follow internal guidelines. Inspiration often comes from everyday news or cultural events, but we always ensure that the content is suitable for classroom use.
Choosing Topics Thoughtfully
Of course, any topic can spark discussion. But our focus is always on creating material that truly supports language learning.
First, we make sure the topic is safe and inclusive. That means we carefully consider:
Does the topic avoid reinforcing discrimination?
Does it avoid pushing a certain ideology?
Is the content appropriate and not overly sexual in tone?
Once these basics are met, we aim to choose topics that lead to active discussions. We want learners to feel motivated to share their own experiences and perspectives.
Some texts are pleasant to read but don’t naturally lead to deeper discussion. For our material, we try to go beyond and instead focus on real-world or thought-provoking topics that open the door to lively class discussions.
Today’s Gift: Sanrio & Nintendo Shareholders’ Meetings
The article we’re sharing today is about the shareholders’ meetings of Sanrio and Nintendo.
It invites you to think and talk about:
What kind of stocks you’d want to buy
What it means to attend a shareholders’ meeting
What shareholders expect from companies
These are topics you don’t often encounter in a Japanese lesson! And because Sanrio and Nintendo are beloved around the world, they make a perfect example of how Japanese companies connect with global culture.
We hope you’ll enjoy reading and join in the discussion too!
